Job Description
We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer with deep backend expertise to lead the modernization of complex distributed systems. In this role, you will drive the evolution of legacy applications into scalable, cloud-native services, contribute to architecture decisions, and mentor engineers while collaborating with cross-functional teams.
The ideal candidate has extensive experience with Python, cloud platforms, distributed systems, and software architecture, and enjoys solving complex technical challenges in large-scale production environments.
Responsibilities
Lead backend development initiatives using Python (3.11+) and PHP (8.4.x).
Understand, maintain, and enhance complex existing codebases while driving new development.
Modernize monolithic applications by designing and implementing container-based microservices.
Lead application and platform modernization across critical services deployed on Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
Drive language and library upgrades, including Python, PHP, and OpenSSL.
Design secure communication protocols across distributed systems.
Build and enhance observability using monitoring and metrics tools such as Chronosphere, Prometheus, and Grafana.
Support the migration from Splunk to Splunk Cloud or alternative logging solutions.
Collaborate on operating system and package management migrations (RHEL7 → EL8/9, yinst → RPM).
Partner with Product Managers, Designers, Principal Engineers, and cross-functional engineering teams to define technical solutions.
Champion software engineering best practices, including code reviews, automated testing, CI/CD, and engineering standards.
Mentor junior engineers and help reduce knowledge silos across the team.
Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues in distributed production environments.
Adapt to evolving business priorities while delivering high-quality software solutions.
Requirements
10+ years of professional software development experience, primarily focused on backend engineering.
8+ years of hands-on experience developing applications with Python (3.11+) and PHP (8.4.x).
Expert-level Python knowledge with experience working on large, complex codebases.
Proven experience modernizing monolithic applications into containerized, cloud-native architectures.
Strong experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
Solid understanding of OpenSSL and secure communication protocols.
Experience with monitoring and observability tools, including Chronosphere, Prometheus, and Grafana.
Experience with logging platforms, particularly Splunk and Splunk Cloud.
Familiarity with Linux operating systems and package management migrations (RHEL, RPM).
Strong experience writing unit, integration, and acceptance tests.
Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
